In the Scottish town of Glenrothes, public art is common place. The town planners chose to include public art pieces which would inspire, create conversations and which could also, in some cases, be used as play structures for children. A major piece was a henge with pressed concrete designs, designed by David Harding. It is inward looking and can be found at the centre of a large playing field, along Beaufort Drive (between Dunbeath Drive and Altyre Avenue), in an area called Pitteuchar, Glenrothes. The backdrop to the painting gives a sense of the houses beyond the henge. As for the concrete mushrooms? Also created by David Harding, they are used as bollards, public seating and as play structures to create a feeling of community - parents with small children can meet and strike up conversations.
