JMJ took inspiration from the long defunct theme park 'Land of Oz', on Beech Mountain, North Carolina. It opened in 1970 and closed in 1980. Visitors could wander up the yellow brick road or travel to the top of the mountain via a cable car system of open baskets below hot air balloons. Although closed for most of the year, the site can be visited on selected days. JMJ added the rocks and stream. Neither are there in real life. JMJ aimed to show the path moving upwards.
